Did anyone try both the Tidal 360 RA and this?

I think the 360RA sounds a lot better personally.

You don’t need any gimmicks to like at least some of her songs.

The fact that there are so many people who say the same exact thing you just did while using the Beatles as some type of nod to knowing “good” music is one of the most confusing things I’ve ever witnessed in my life.

The Beatles literally made all different types of music and sounds and experimented, but when there’s anyone new making different sounding music it’s suddenly all the Beatles “fans” that are most against these things. It’s mind blowing the lack of self awareness in these type of statements, and they’ve been happening for like 50 years now.

No I’m not a huge Billie fan, but even I can appreciate “everything I wanted” and not immediately write it off.
I'm no BE fan but I remember back when 'rap' was 'horrible, garbage' music and would never catch on......now pretty much rules the world. Never say 'never'....and things 'change'.....hold on to 'your' past but let the present/future march on....

I suspect this kind of ‘spacial audio’ will go about as far as 3D TVs.

Real spacial audio, which I’ve heard in rooms with over 50 speakers, is indeed very neat.

edit: For anyone interested, check this out.
For both of you: I can understand vs your home system....but what about the gym or walking with your iPhone? Me thinks a lot of people are judging too fast and only vs their home systems....

40 years later quadrophonic audio is back and better than ever.

We still have a quad reel to reel machine with quad headphones. Headphones were a little bulky but worked at that time. Was hard to find content but there was one radio station that transmitted quad at my location. :p

iPhone 8+ with air pods 2...works awesome

MacBook Pro 2013 15" (16 gigs ram, 1 TB SSD) with the same air pods...every 10 - 15 seconds the music cuts out non stop.

At least for me, all of the listening I did was on the headphones always use to listen to music. I just didn’t think it sounded good. Like I said, just sounds like they used a stereo-spreader (causing phase issues) and added too much reverb, making everything sound farther away. There just isn’t any punch to it IMO. Maybe it’s the type of music I listen to, and I’m sure other people will enjoy it. Just not something that sounds good or is enjoyable to listen to for me. I did try it out of my phone speakers and for some parts of certain songs it definitely added some depth, while other parts just sounded severely over-compressed. Maybe they can tweak it to get a better effect, I’m just not hearing that currently

3d reverbs are very nice. The less "jet plane" panning used the better. Studio engineers are going to need some time to learn how to best utilise these new tools (which of course are not too dissimilar to existing binaural panning or surround mixing), just the same as engineers had to learn how to utilise stereo when it was introduced. It's also why we mostly vastly prefer the mono mixes to early stereo mixes - once those kinks were worked out stereo mixes was the only way forward.

Where this falls down for me, as it does in my own added binaural mixing, is that it of course only works properly in headphones. You can't expect everyone to play these tracks on ATMOS supporting sound systems when using speakers.

I can't wait to get a new Dolby Atmos receiver to enjoy this. Marantz and Denon released new products with HDMI 2.1 VFR support. So a win win for me :)

I haven’t found a single song that actually sounds better in any way compared to normal stereo sound. Maybe some people will like it, but it just completely destroys the actual mix IMO. To me it just sounds distant, adds more phase cancellations and offsets, and adds way too much reverb. I couldn’t hear any more details and actually lost clarity on a good number of songs I tried. Also, it doesn’t really add to the dynamic range because it just decreases the volume of everything, meaning you just have to turn it up making it harder to do A/B comparisons

Yep, it's just marketing to reinforce lock-in.

I’m late to the game and after listening to a podcast where the presenters talked about spatial audio, I thought I’d give it a try. I went for something I’m very familiar with so I listened to ‘Automatic For The People’ by REM. You know what, I was knocked out. It gave an album I’m very familiar with, a whole new sound. I heard while new things I’d never heard before. Michael Stipe’s voice is so clear, something which doesn’t always happen on REM albums. The sound is really stretched out and all of the instruments are easy to pick out. To these old ears spatial audio sounds fantastic. Can’t wait to hear some Pink Floyd in SA.
