Late to the party and have just puruchased a AppleTV 4K. It shipped with TVOS 13.2 however when I try to update it to the latest, I am always getting the “Update was not successful. Please try again later” error. I am able to stream perfectly fine.

I tried following troubleshooting:
- restarted AppleTV
- Reset, Reset and Update
- Ethernet and Wifi connections.

I even tried
- manual DNS entry and rebooting networking devices to no avail

After all this I still cannot update the AppleTV and thinking I may have a defective unit.

Is there anything else I should try?

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Perhaps Apple Servers are actually down (doubtful)?

Why not call Apple Support?

Called Apple Support went through the same troubleshooting as I have already done. They directed me to a Genius reservation. Went in and there was nothing more the Tech could do but replace it.

Happy to say the new box works fine, I was able to update successfully to TvOS 13.3

I did notice the box came with TvIOS 12.2 as opposed to the TvOS 13.2 from the previous one. Not sure though if that was the cause of the problem.
