This may play into your desicion. Someone has hacked the TV to play divx and are working on xvid. Those are the two most common kinds of avi. Someone else has also managed to upgrade the harddrive in the TV. s of now, it appears that Apple has not locked down the TV t all. There should be a pretty big homebrew scene for it.

Maybe check at appletv.net every once in a while to help influence your decision.

The first thing I said could help you if you are comfortable with that kind of stuff.

Yeah, I saw those. It's not that I wouldn't want to do it, just buying it and having to 'hack' it to get it to do what I want doesn't really tempt me all that much. Especially when Apple says this stuff 'Just Works'

But seriously. PPC Mac Mini are selling for how much these days? Can't help but feel I'd prefer a full-blown Mac...

Buy the 360 Drive dude. At least that way you've covered your bases for the battle. (assuming you continue to buy macs in the future)
