My internet is shutoff I am trying to watch movies thru home share, I can access my music and it plays but with movies I can just view the list of movies but when you select them it just spins I have view movies on this when I had internet so I know the ATV and computer are synced up

This has been discussed frequently and there's been some disagreement. Some people say you cannot view your iTunes content with home sharing unless you have an internet connection. Others claim that you can.
All I know is my own experience. When my internet connection goes down, I can't view the iTunes movies on my Mac Mini. Although I couldn't watch movies on either of my two AppleTVs, I was able to watch them on my MacBook Air with home sharing while the internet connection was down. So this seems to be an issue with the AppleTV and not home sharing in general.

I believe the current Apple TV was designed to "check" that the movie you are watching is authorized. Unlike computers that are counted against your authorized list, Apple TVs aren't.
Even if it's true, it can possibly only check the iTunes DRM-ed movies. What is there to check on own-encoded non-DRM movies?
