    Hi all,

First post so be gentle please!!

New to Macs mine only arrived yesterday, gradually starting to understadn it and how to do things!

I wanted to install sortsafari as I wanted to sort all my Safari bookmarks, i downloaded it and gradually worked out how to do it etc, however, in the process of doing it I have manged to end up with the install image stuck on the background of my applicatiosn folder, so I two finger clicked it to adjust the properties, but where it shows an image in the little box down the bottom, where you can change the background to white, black or image, I cant change any of it as it has shaded image and then shaded everything else out so it wont allow me to change the properties?

How can I change or rectify this please as having this silly image behind my applications folder icons is driving me mad!!!!

    Thanks in advance.

Can you post screenshots of both the applications folder and the settings you were trying to change? :)

If you're referring to the Applications folder on your Dock, right-click (or Control-click) it and select Display as: Folder. If you're talking about something else, a better explanation and a screen shot would help. Here's how to take a screen shot and post it.

That sounds like a custom background in the installer DMG. Also sounds like maybe you are running the app from the DMG and did not get it installed properly.

First, when you open the DMG you downloaded, drag the app from there over into the Applications folder.

If you open a new Finder window, do you see the SafariSort DMG still mounted on the left like in my screenshot? Click the little up arrow I pointed to to eject the DMG and that will get rid of the custom background you are seeing inside the DMG file.

Now when you want to run Safari Sort just launch it from Applications or command-space search for it using Spotlight.

Not sure how, but I think I sorted it?? Seems I wasnt fully understanding of how to open and run an dapplication, I didnt know you had to move it into the applicatins folder, do you have to do that for all things hat you download, what about driver downloads etc, where do they go?

I think the image has gone now as the last few times I have looked in the applications folder its not there.

All new to me this Mac stuff, but am sure I will get used to it in time!

Thanks for your help so far, much appreciate it.

Applications should be installed to the Applications folder, see the following guide on methods to use the various kinds of installers: Installing Applications in Mac OS X

As for drivers, they normally come with installers, which you have to execute and the installer does all the work. What you do with the installers is up to you though.
