Application folder reads upside down?

has anyone had this happen...I am running Tiger 10.4.2 ,20" iMac 1.8
for no apparent reason my app folder has reversed the alphabetical order...
with Z at the top and running down to A at the bottom!!!
I have installed no new apps nor altered the system in any way!
have run disk permissions/repair and all is well, and workng just fine,
I seem to remember this happening on my old iMac G4 as well?
Is it me....?

Click the column heading, 'Name'

Clicking a column header will sort by that column, clicking an active column will reverse the order.
