my mbp is, for lack of a better term, ****ed. i went to the apple store to get it repaired (the second time) but they didnt have any of the needed parts in stock, and i really need my computer for the net few weeks as its the end of the semester. so i had to hold off until may on getting it repaired. but just today i had a kernel panic while working on both word and photoshop (not an uncommon occurrence on my computer) but when i restarted word and photoshop wont open. any other program works except the two i really need. when i click on them the icon bounces once and does nothing else. ive also tried opening files to get the program to start, and nothing happens. what can i do to get them to open up?

I'd recommend a restart, but as unstable as your system sounds, I don't know if that's the best plan.

Do you know what the problem with your MBP is? Logic board problems?

at the apple store they said it was the logic board and maybe the harddrive. i already took it to the apple store once and they fed me some lie about an old version of the OS being installed on my computer so they just reinstalled everything and didnt look at the hardware. it worked for less than a week before my first kernel panics started again.

i can restart the computer fine, and i have a few times since word and photoshop stopped working, with no results.

this really sucks because ive got multiple final projects to work on and i dont need a single application on my computer other than the two that dont open.

does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get these two applications to work?

its actually photoshop and the entire microsoft office package, making things just a bit more difficult for me.

Any Help!?!

Hey. i am having a very similar problem.

My computer is fine, i have never really had any problems with my mbp. the only thing i can think of that i have done recently is an apple update which crashed. but then i tried the update again a few days later.

until last week, my applications were fine but now for some reason, i am unable to open microsoft word or adobe photoshop. the icons just bounce but dont respond or open. i have tried repairing permissions but that hasnt worked.

could anyone please help me?

The clue to the problem should be in the panic log.

One you find and fix the problem, updating prebindings may fix some of the app opening problems.

Hmm..have you tried trashing the preferences for the offending applications? Under your home folder Library/Preferences. That or search for <insert applications name here>.plist
