Applications failing during launch - 3GS

I have a problem whereby my iPhone 3GS is now failing to launch certain apps, eg Columns and Grindr. The app seems to start and then fails after a minute or so and reverts to the home screen. Have tried a hard reset (both buttons) - do I need to clear out and restore from a backup?

Not yet. You probably just have an app conflict or it didn't install correctly. You can do either of two things. Delete and reinstall the problem apps or install a new app. One of those should fix it. If not, you can delete all your apps and reinstall them.
