Thanks, I'll revisit once I actually get my new MacBook ... Definitely if anybody else wanna add to the listincluding description/pics/links that'd be a huge help for us first time mac owners. But for now thanks for this thread, especially the OP up there, great :D

You're going to get a warning for that tbp link, I suggest you remove it if you want to avoid moderator butthurt.

As long as we're pirating though:
Adobe Creative Suite 5 master collection is a must have (even if you only use Photoshop )

i agree its great!

Unison sucks though! its a memory hog...
i find NZBvortex much better and efficient.

I like Unison's UI and really don't care about resource hogging. I've been unable to find a working crack for Unison 2.
That said, I'll definitely check NZBvortex out; it's always good to have options.

Thanks for this thread. I'll be going through these, and seeing what is suitable for my needs, when my new computer arrives.

I installed little snatch mainly for protection from anti piracy agencies when using torrents, and i suppose maybe for pirated software i get any. But i'm extremely confused on how to use it. Everytime i open an app it asks to allow connection and its quite annoying. Any recomendation on how to set it up for what i need it for?

You only need do it once, when those pop up you have the option of
Default: Until the application quits, so that means every time you set the rule and quit, it resets and will ask again.

Just hit the tab next to it that says forever. Then click deny or allow.
I have everything on mine allowed except for my CS5 Suite, Office 2008 Suite, Camtasia, and COD 4. It basically insures that you will never be deactivated.

If you mess up or want to change a rule, just pop into the snitch configuration (see pic on first page) and change it easily.

hey rmbrown09, can you change your settings to accept PMs or is there any way I can contact you with some questions ?

If you know what you're doing absolutely. I also use a private tracker site for a lot of my stuff, and that is 100% safe :)
If by "private tracker" you are referring to an invite only tracker, that is most definitely not "100% safe" bro.

trust me, this is the Fort Knox of torrent sites, few members, all pure torrents. Invite only.

most people don't even know the site exists, let alone ever get in. I know a fair amount about PC's and Mac's, and the guys in there make me look like I'm 3 years old.

Don't believe me that's fine.

having "investigated" a lot of private torrent sites they are not fort knox :\, but i wish they were. even the FTN, SCC, FTWR of the torrent sites are not very secure. The most secure (from a vulnerability point of view) private tracker site i've seen is no longer active :\ (SCT)

just always cover your ass.

(if want to discuss more pm me)

thanks for the list of apps everyone. good stuff

Out of your list Cocktail and Steam are the onces that I will be using plus some of my own that I wrote in my own thread. (soon to be first time mac owner)

Marco Polo (changes settings based on your location. Have your laptop automatically recognise where it is and switch your settings accordingly.)

Little snitch (ensure that only the software you choose has access to the internet.)

WireTap (record the output from your soundcard directly. Really useful for many situations, but especially if you make music.

3 must have programs for me. Think only little snitch has been mentioned before.

Edit: As mentioned previously, BetterTouchTool is well worth installing imo.
