Hello!

I wonder if on my iPhone it is needed or advisable to close the apps running in background like just for instance the weather and other internet consuming applications or if it useless because the system prevents them from eating up data and system resources.

Thanks,
Daniele

You don't have to close apps on a iPhone. iOS will manage everything. Terminating apps could have a negative effect on battery life since it has to relaunch the app every single time, instead of just opening from memory. But even then it's a tiny difference. Some apps could have a bug though that makes the battery drain and closing that app will help. If you stumble upon such an app you can find in settings which apps drain your battery. A reinstall of the app could help in a situation like that.

No real reason to do it unless the app is misbehaving or it's an app that is known to use resources in the background (like VoIP type of apps like Skype for example) and you don't need to use it anymore and remain open at the time.
