Applications on Lion

Will all applications that work on SL also work in Lion?

Sorry if it's a stubit question but I'm new to mac and on Windows the XP things don't work on Vista for example.

All apps released/updated for Lion will.

Note: Some apps are not being used in Lion (Spaces for example).

Also, a vast majority of applications one can get for Mac OS X are developed by independent developers and whether the app is available for Lion will depend on whether it is released/updated for Lion.
