I tend to agree with duke here ... but not delete.

It would be nice if the OP could close the thread ... often times a user will ask a question, and they may get 1 helpful response and 14 pages of chaff. It would help everybody if the OP could merely close their thread when they feel their question has been answered.

I don't see a need for a Thread Starter to be a mini mod. Sounds too complicated to implement and maintain.

That feature is on every post in the shape of the report post button

A far better solution, and it is already available
The report triangle provides enough input to the mod team.

it would be nice if the op could close/delete his own thread though
Disagree with this.

Thread Starters vary in maturity regardless of post count. This would only create more issues for the mods to deal with. Not a good idea.

The problem is that that breaks the flow of the conversation unless it is used very carefully.
True. Who knows, some Thread Starters might close the thread if they perceive they were loosing an argument within the thread.

True, if the OP doesn't like what people are saying, thread closed, before any real discussion can begin. Seems like this would be easily abused.

Maybe it should come in after becoming at 65816 (1000 posts) or something, then that might stop any newbies from abusing it.

The issue is that post count does not necessarily equal maturity when it comes to moderating. It's just an arbitrary number.

Time on Mac Rumors might be considered. However some who have been here a long time may have trouble maintaining their objectivity at times.

That is why it is best left to the mod team. They work together to moderate all areas of Mac Rumors fairly and as objectively as they can.

True, I've seen people with 20+ posts per day on their profile. I'm not going to suggest enforcing more mods, as the recent influx of mods has been very well received, I made a post where I quoted someone with an image, forgot to take out the img tags, no more than 30 seconds after I'd posted, mod had taken the tags out. Crazy stuff.

That system could well be open for abuse, given the example above when people may close a thread when the are loosing a debate.

The OP could ask for the thread to be closed/cleaned up via the report post button and so can anyone reading the thread.

Also it could degrade the quality of the available information and lead to even more duplicate threads. People search for solutions and may well find a thread that has a solution but there case might differ slightly. At this point they could reply to the thread and ask for clarification or give updated information, if the thread was closed then they would have to start another thread diluting the information.

..and i think that is the decision making point in this whole argument. instead of starting a new thread users can "revive" the older threads by reading what has already been said (reducing duplication) and the time it takes for people to read the OPs question and then reply- it will also save the OP time writing and waiting for a reply..

I guess I dont start many threads ;) ... hmm actually... I wonder if I have even started 10 threads in the 4 years on here.

(Edit: apparently I have started 3 threads)

Well, it's not just on threads you've started, but every post by every member in every thread.

i guess sometimes i think the OP would like to have some more control sometimes, but not necessarily "Mod Power".

If the OP would like to do something with their thread, they can always contact a mod directly via PM or using the report triangle.
Ok ya i guess that works.

Now I think Ill close this thread..... Oh wait....:plol

If only credibility was a function of post count alone :-\

i went on to say that it wasnt an indicator of "maturity a but later on.

well what about a new system? a credibility system?? each time someone says/does/teaches somebody then they can choose to give that contributor a "maturity point". you need 1000 maturity points (as an example) to become a mod or mod your own posts/threads or whatever..

i donno just putting it out there haha.

I've yet to see this well-implemented on any site yet. Slashdot has it, Digg sort of has it, various other tech blogs have something where you can vote on a poster. It would probably just be a resource hog anyway for very little gain.

good, just making sure you did your homework hehe:cool: goodboy

neither have i tbh, but macs and mac people have a way to design things so that they just work ;) Arn is a very knowledgable guy, maybe he can implement something!?!?
