Good morning,

This past weekend I purchased a new XS Max from my local Apple Store to replace an iPhone 8 Plus that had a kernel panic. When setting up my new phone, immediately after opening the camera app, it crashed out of the app. I have experienced a few other crashed apps too (mostly WSJ and a local news app), but other than that everything seems fine. Having had kernel panic issues with my previous phone, I’m a little paranoid now. While I do have 14 days to exchange it and a one-year warranty, do you think this is anything I should be concerned about or is it normal pressure on the CPU from setting my phone up as new?

Thank you in advance.

Set it up as a brand new device. Don't set up restoring from backup. Sounds like your iPhone 8 problem followed you to your new phone.

Wipe the phone and set up as new again. If it crashes again when opening the camera app etc., return it to Apple and get another one.

Thank you for all of your help; it is much appreciated. As of right now, everything seems to be stable and running smoother, without having performed a restore. I am going to chalk it up to the phone indexing itself, but I will keep an eye on the issue. Interestingly, I appear to have that stuttering issue that other people have posted about. While not a deal breaker, it’s an odd issue to have on an $1,100 phone. Nonetheless, a little stutter beats using an Android phone.
