i noticed that after using apps the app's "documents and data" gets increased when you look in system preference. is there a way to delete the "documents and data" without deleting the app? i bought the 16gb ipad cus i thought itll be more than enough but now i only have 13gb and i barely used it yet and i havent even downloaded that many apps.

A big part of the 3 GB already used will be the system.
Music and movie files are likely to take an important storage space.
Books too, I suppose.
A large number of app docs will no doubt be (a lot) smaller, and of less concern.
iWork docs reside in the cloud.

So, depending on the kind of data you want to keep at hand, a 16 GB can help you well enough.

As far as I know, only via Jailbreak.
Don't know if a file browser for non-jailbroken devices (iExplorer I think it's called?) can actually MODIFY (not just "see") files, in which case you could do it without jailbreak.

You'd have to enter each app'd folder and manually delete the "Documents" and "Temp" contents.
