Hi, i'm a new owner of ipad, 2 in this case, but that doesn't change the question..

Could you plese suggest some good apps, not games, which turn the ipad in a useful business or productivity tool even when there is no internet access, for example on an airplane? Especially news apps that work offline, content creating apps, but that really work very nice offline. S far all apps I have really require internet to be of any real use..

Thank you!

Today's News (most of the content of the Guardian). Instapaper and ReadItLater both download content to your device. I'm sure others will add other magazines, etc. Of course all the text editors and word processors don't require Internet access to work, though you won't have access to files stored in the cloud.

1. iBooks (to load your PDF files and read them)
2. PDF Expert (lets you sync PDFs and other files with dropbox for offline reading)
3. Pages (word processing)
4. Numbers (spreadsheet)
5. Keynote (presentation software)
6. Textastic (if you are into web development)
7. The Daily (make sure you download the entirety (read: 100% progress) of "today's issue" at the airport terminal before boarding the plane)
8. Wunderlist (free app, work on todos offline and will sync once you're online)
9. Dropbox (you can mark a file as 'favorite' and to view and open offline)
10. All of wikipedia (the entire wikipedia archive, text only, downloaded to your ipad for offline reference. great, but space consuming~5.1GB)

Some RSS clients (Reeder is my favorite) can sync with Google Reader and sync for offline access to your feeds.

Great question I'm in the military I spend months at sea without any wifi so I'm interested in useful productivity , games, and utilities apps for that offline experience

Games.
Infinity blade.
Dead space.
Plants vs zombies.

Also atomic browser let's you save web pages for offline use if that's what your interested in.

I've been using Manage as a to do list offline (I like it because you can write in tasks with a stylus, but it is missing some features of other to do lists), and playing a lot of Pocket Frogs.

I know there are apps that play .avi video out there, I just haven't picked one yet. That would be useful to me offline as I download a lot of tv shows that I miss to view them later.

BlogPress let's you write up blog entries and save local copies, then post once you're online, if that's useful to you.

It would be nice if iOS would hide Internet-only app when iPad is put into airplane mode.
