All I need is Siri Shortcuts to work with Spotify so I can have it launch and play Spotify from a HomePod. Then I'll get a HomePod

Can't find Siri Shortcuts app on the iPhone after installing ios 12

You have to download it from the App Store. I have no idea why Apple didn't automatically include it in the installation of iOS 12. Doesn't make sense to me, but perhaps it's because learning how to create custom shortcuts is extremely frustrating and Apple's support documents fall way short in explaining the process.

Check out Homebridge! I have an instance running on a Raspberry Pi and it makes all sorts of stubborn companies' products HomeKit compatible. Nest, Ring, and Chamberlain come to mind.

I really hope this means Nest will get their s**t together and work with their iOS customers. Not offering HomeKit is just stubborn.

Need Sonos to Integrate this!!

I want this:
“Hey Siri, I’m going to bed”.
-> turn off all lights except the one in the bedroom at 30%, starting a dimming countdown of 20 minutes.
-> start a playlist “meditation” at Sonos, with a sleep timer to 15 minutes.
-> launch beddit sleep tracking
-> put the phone into DND mode till 8am.

I think almost none of it is possible as of yet. Hopefully one day.

This looks like IFTTT which did basically the same thing, albeit not as nice looking and not dedicated to the Apple Ecosystem. Many people found it useful but I found it cumbersome and Shortcuts looks quite cumbersome to me as well... maybe Apple will have a Genius Bar session to show real life usages.

The main difference with IFTTT is that Siri is mostly offline - on your device, while IFTTT is in the cloud.

Speaking of IFTTT, I see integration with it is removed in Shortcuts :-(
Hopefully this is only because IFTTT are it taking over as part of their app’s integration with Siri (one can hope!).

Do any of you know if you can use Shortcuts with the Apple Watch yet? It doesn't show up as an Apple Watch app, and I don't see an option to enable it from the Shortcuts app on the iPhone either.

Me neither. And I found Siri shortcuts in settings but I don’t know how to add new ones.
[doublepost=1537238881][/doublepost]So Im trying to teach it to turn on my Bluetooth and play a certain playlist so when I get in my car it’s ready to go.

But I can’t tell it to play a playlist because I don’t own the songs? Even though I subscribe to Apple Music and have the songs downloaded to my iPhone.
This sucks.
I hate when they release crap and it doesn’t work or the one thing you might actually want a tutorial on they don’t give one.
Ugh I guess I gotta spend more time with it or look on YouTube.

I tried to create a shortcut so I could quickly create Memojis to my wife either via text or FaceTime but Siri isn't having any of it "I can't see an app for that". No sign of Memojis in the shortcuts app either

Anyone else able to get this working?

Can the HomePod do any of the shortcuts?

I tried a simple one for the weather and it couldn’t do it?

Set up email for inbox and junk which is ideal when you are viewing straight from your lock screen.

HomePod can trigger shortcuts but all the processing is done on the device they were created on (iPhone). HomePod will only fulfill the spoken part of the response. You can grab weather as a data source in shortcuts and format a spoken response based on that data but it's not simple.

I was really looking forward to this in iOS 12 after seeing the demo.

So far disappointed.

I have a heading home shortcut which texts my wife my ETA, starts playing my "Car" playlist and get's me directions to home. What I can't get it to do is to actually start the navigation. It shows directions, but I have to hit Go manually which defeats the point of a shortcut. I want to be able to say "Siri, heading home" and have not have to touch my phone.

I added the log caffeine shortcut from the gallery, and it doesn't work. It runs, but doesn't ask me anything (which it appears it should have - menu was setup wrong?) then completes. Checking the health app there's no data for caffeine.

Anyone know if there’s a way to create a shortcut to connect to a Bluetooth device? I’ve had a good scan through the list but I can only see turning Bluetooth on and off.

I really want a quick way to connect to my AirPods that doesn’t involve opening Control Centre, tapping that small corner of the music widget and then tapping the AirPods to connect. It would be great to just boil that down to one button on the front of Control Centre.

I'm monkeying around with the shortcuts/macros app. It's interesting. It's a shame you have to program Siri to do a lot of these things instead of her doing them.

For instance I'd love to share my location with whoever I'm using messages with, not have to pre-pick people to send it to.

This is exactly (well, pretty close) to what I was hoping for/expecting from Shortcuts. But... in the shortcuts app, there's no sign of any integration with HomeKit!? Am I missing something, or did Apple miss a BIG trick here? I guess you can kinda do some of this within HomeKit already, but only specifically for HomeKit enabled items (e.g. "Good Night" to switch off a bunch of stuff), but I was really hoping for something a little more complex like you've listed here.

Surely, this would have been an ideal use of this feature?

Anyone with me, and with chfilm, obviously?

Good point... and I've not tried IFTTT... I heard you have to effectively give them your passwords / access into any and all systems you want to integrate. Not sure I'm comfortable with that!? Although, I guess we're doing the same thing (kinda) with Apple for Shortcuts too... Any thoughts about the privacy of either solution?

I feel your pain!
I too was hoping for some much more.

Tip for you with regards to the directions home... if you've not done it this way before (I suspect you probably have)... I just say "Hey Siri, take me home"... and she does. Bonus - if you do this with the screen locked, and even in "DnD while driving", then she switches off the screen between turns - as long as it's a long enough distance/time between them. On Motorways/Freeways, she lights up again 2 miles before the exit.

But... this all defeats the object of a single spoken command to do multiple things, which is the disappointment for me.

I think they either overlooked it because it’s so obvious, or there was some serious technical problem with AirPlay and HomeKit. Hopefully we’ll get this with iOS 12.3 and not only with iOS 13. They HAVE to Integrate this eventually, it’s an absolute no brained, but the question is when.

Any word on the new navigation apps for car play? That was a key points in the iOS 12 event, pretty excited to be able to use Google maps and Waze instead of apples Trainwreck they call maps!!

At the moment Shortcuts cannot play any audio on the HomePod, only spoken responses.

You can’t add shortcuts to control center.

I made a compromise.

I tell Siri "Drive Home" which kicks in navigation.
I then say tell Siri "Heading Home" which triggers a shortcut to txt my ETA to my wife. It's a pain having to do 2 steps, but it's easier than having to read my ETA, then say "Siri, text wife I should be back by 5:30" as Siri never gets that right 1st time :)
