I tend to rip a DVD or two for trips so that my mac doesnt use all its battery reading the disc. But any new released movie will not rip!!! It just stops. I can rip my Friends DVD's from a few years ago but I bought Angels & Demons and it wont do it (others include, Knowing, Paul Blart: Mall Cop)

A new type of protection?

Could be... have you tried the latest Handbrake (that just came out) along with the current version of VLC? (Also check directly in VLC and see if it's able to play it.)

Hmmm, I've ripped both Knowing and Paul Blart: Mall Cop with no problems. Must be something on your end.

Ok so I tried ripping Angels & Demons again with Handbrake and it just stops after 2 or so % and saves a file. The file is just a black video of about 20 seconds.
I also tried Mac DVDRipper Pro and it stops at about 2% and gets locked into a funny dvd reading sequence. I can hear my drive click, start to read then after about 6-7secs it stops and restarts the process.

The odd thing is the drive works fine ripping older DVD's, Playing any dvd or even playing a game.

Once you've ripped it to disk use Handbrake 0.9.3 and it will convert happily.

I'm having the same problem with the same DVD. I am unable to get a clean rip without a "bad sector" warning using Mac The Ripper. After completing the rip and disregarding the error message and starting to convert with Handbrake, the process ends in a few seconds and no movie (of course) is created.

Has anyone been able to rip this movie and if so what method and software did you use?

I note that this is a Sony Entertainment movie. That is the start of the problem. the question is what is the work around, if any??

paid

are you using the paid version of MTR? that one is updated with the latest MCV decryption. The free one is not

OK well I updated RipIt and it worked. Then I converted it with Handbrake and its now on my iPod :D

...

I have a windows program called magic dvd ripper that runs through parallels and it has never let me down with any DVD. I then convert using videoredo through parallels which converts to many formats. I like it because often the conversion will be messed up on some dvds and video redo has a "quickstream fix" which will fix pretty much anything

I managed to copy Paul Blart, but I had to skip the first chapter to get it to work. In the process, I lost the first 3 minutes of the movie.

Did that happen to you? Or did you copy Paul Blart back when Handbrake could use VLC Media Player?

You do realize you are asking someone a question about a post from almost 6 years ago (2009)??

It's been a while but I just double-checked and I am positive I didn't have to skip any chapters. I don't think I did anything special. :)
