I mean, the icon itself does not show badges, but if I enter the store and check the updates, they’ll show up (when there is any).
At this point, if I go back on home screen, the badge appears and shows the number of available updates.
In the iTunes & AppStore settings, I've selected Automatic Downloads for both Apps and Updates.
I’m running iOS 11.1.

Can you help me how to figure this out?

I guess I'd start by doing a device restart (not a reset, just the full shutdown) and then logging out of your iTunes account (and back in). Those are both simple and non-destructive.

Ok done, let’s wait and see if it will work or what!

I have the same issue. Hard reset didn’t make a difference

When you have auto update on for App updates, this is normal behavior. The phone checks for updates every so often, I believe when the phone is charging and connected to WiFi. When it does the check, it will download any updates that exist in the background. You won’t see any badges on the icon.

The only time you’ll see the icon is if you manually check for app updates.

I've noticed this since iOS 8. My observation is Apple will not put a badge app icon with how many app updates are needed until a few days have past since the update came out. Same as the iOS updates. Many people don't know there is an iOS update until the Settings app shows the badge icon (which is about a week later).

Now if you go in the App store and back out, yes the badge app icon shows how many updates are waiting. Same with the Settings app, go in, check for iOS update, download but don't install the update, then the Settings app will show a badge app icon until you install.

Not sure why Apple does this. Maybe so people don't update all at the same time to bog down servers? No idea.

I’m not sure either. It’s not a big deal, I’ve only had a few bugs with iOS 11. For the most part, it’s been a well behaved update. It hasn’t been much different than iOS 10 in that respect

Good to know that it’s a widespread thing, I thought It was just me.
Thanks for sharing.

It's not a big deal for me either, I just don’t understand why it didn’t show updates, but only after you entered the store and went back to the home screen.
Go figure...

I’ve noticed this bahavior for quite a while now. At least the last year or so.

Wow that's great (sarcasm mode:eek:n)!
But I still don’t understand if it is a bug, if it’s just the way it’s meant to work (very badly), or if there is a way to do it properly and receive notifications as well as other apps.
Does Apple know about this “case”?
