I've always gotten a badge on the App Store Icon to let me know when I have updates, without having to open it to check.
Sorry, but I flat out do not believe you.

Unless Apple only puts this in random select OS downloads.

Because just about no one sees this happening.

The only time I get a badge is when I open the App Store, or I connect the phone to iTunes.
Is it possible that the "more" button is intuitive. Perhaps it only shows up if you have updates or something to redeem?
No.

The option is now gone.

And REDEEM can't be intuitive because the phone isn't smart enough to know when my wife gives me an iTunes card for my birthday. :D

same here .. i turned my phone on this morning hoping to see some more updates and the "more" button was there.

Now its gone!

i didnt perform a sync since i updated yesterday.

How is it that it disappeared without us updating the firmware? Unless they had some kind of expiration date for it and it automatically was removed or something like that.

I was wondering that exact same question too. Not that it's a big deal on my end, I just thought that app updates like that couldn't happen without us reinstalling something.

Oh no, they can update stuff like that without updating the firmware.

Otherwise, how is MMS going to magically appear one day when ATT gets their head out of their butts? :)

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch 32GB: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Not sure if it was there before but redeem does exist in the iTunes store app on the iPhone. I guess Apple didn't think it was needed in two places...

I put updates as one of the 4 tabs (because it's the one i use most) before they made this change and now my "Updates" is set as the third tab instead of the last one... weird

Got the same as you, and don't think it's possible to move it to the right.

I've noticed this too. Could this possibly have something to do with changing the carrier settings? I checked the App store yesterday and I noticed the "More" button at the bottom, but I hadn't checked it again until this morning. Yesterday afternoon I downloaded the ATT_US.ipcc file from 9to5mac.com to get tethering (and it works great!), but could this have something to do with messing around with those settings? Like how it added the camera icon in the messaging app? Is everyone experiencing this or just people who have tried to get tethering and MMS?

I've gotten badges without opening it. Not very often but it's happened. I think it fetches update data once or twice a day so if you're going in a few times a day you'll only get badges when you open it. But if you leave it for 12 or 24 hours they'll show up. It's like fetching email. If you open Mail you'll see email that you didn't know you had. If you don't open it though it'll tell you at the set interval that you have mail.

This has nothing to do with MMS.

MMS will need a carrier update file. But that is super quick through iTunes.

The App Store (and iTunes Store) are web-based. Apple can make changes behind the scenes to them.

I know it has nothing to do with MMS.

I just meant that stuff can change in the OS without doing an actual OS change or new firmware install.

Like, after installing the carrier file and then all the MMS options just appear on the phone because of it.

Bad comparison I realize in hindsight... :D

I have to believe it updates in some other manner then just going into the app store or synching itunes.

I have gone weeks and months between syncs before and rarely go into the app store on my phone but I have seen the badge update from time to time with update numbers.

So I have to believe it had some kind of schedule to update via push on some interval or in some manner.

In fact I suspect this was the whole foundation for push in the first place. They were already doing this and thought they could expand it to work for other stuff.

I had no idea

I would love the App store to get push notification on when i get a update it gets annoying some to have to go in and check the updates every day to see a update

They made it so you can reedem codes in the iTunes app instead you have the option under more.

App store seems faster now and that's good because it was slow yesterday.

Same thing happened here.

Anyone having to log in to their iTunes account everytime they enter the AppStore? It's getting slightly annoying for me and not sure why it keeps asking for my damn password. Maybe so I don't have to input it if I decide to download an app?

I'm experiencing it. Haven't tried to get tethering or MMS.

I'm glad it wasn't just me... Thought I was going crazy.
I liked being able to edit the buttons on the navigation bar... I want it back!
I thought to the top buttons (New, Whats Hot, Top Paid, etc.) looked different/better before the magical change also... WTF?

This is happening to me as well. It's worth mentioning that I have a movie download that is stalled for some reason in my iTunes download cue, which I imagine might have something to do with it. However any time I open iTunes or the app store, it asks me for my password. Very annoying.
