I'm concerned that when my iPhone is connected to a public network (e.g. Starbucks), someone can sniff the wireless data and determine my AppStore password when I use it (i.e. when purchasing a new iOS app).

Does anyone know if transmission of my password to Apple for authentication is done in an encrypted fashion - e.g. HTTPS?
