Smart home accessory company Aqara today announced its new HomeKit and Matter-compatible Camera Hub G350.

Billed as the first Matter-certified camera for multi-platform homes, the G350 is a 4K indoor camera with a dual-lens system, combining a 4K wide-angle lens and a 2.5K telephoto lens that enables up to a 9x hybrid zoom.

It features a motorized pan-tilt mechanism and can rotate 360 degrees, allowing its automatic tracking to follow people and pets, wherever they roam. It additionally includes 940mm invisible infrared LEDs for clear night vision with no conspicuous red glow.

The G350 can also detect faces, pets, and six specific sounds like a baby crying, someone coughing, or a dog barking, while two-way audio and a live view can be accessed via Apple's HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, Alexa, and Google Home.

A microSD slot provides support for up to 512GB of 24/7 local recording, or users can optionally leverage Aqara's encrypted cloud storage, with Apple HomeKit Secure Video (via an iCloud+ plan) also supported, albeit with a 1080p resolution limit.

The G350 also functions as a Zigbee hub, Thread Border Router, and Matter Controller within the Aqara Home app, allowing Aqara Zigbee accessories and third-party Matter devices to be managed as a single interoperable system.

The Aqara Camera Hub G350 is available internationally from Amazon.

Some of their products look interesting so I went to check them out from this post...

But when I see something this dishonest and lazy, I move on.

I have two Aqara cameras... the doorbell and outdoor camera, and while these photos are clearly faked, they are accurate. Image quality is well within my acceptable range.

Very happy with both cameras set up with HomeKit.

Not enough information about how the “back up to NAS” works since I could not find a link to the user manual. It says only available “via SD card”, which could mean anything, including physically carrying the card to a reader 🤷 it would be simple enough to hook up to all kinds of surveillance systems (NAS-based or otherwise) if it supported existing protocols (RTSP, ONVIF, etc.) but I suspect they did not because “cloud is awesome!”

The Zigbee+Thread compatibility is cool, though.

Does this one not function as an IR blaster? Seems like this is a direct upgrade to the g3 and that is our most used feature of the device. Also; any word of a hardwired Ethernet option?

Very nice offering. I plan on switching over to Aqara once my Ring plan expires in a few months. Not planning on giving them another dime. HKSV is the way to go.

Fine print says: * Note: within Apple Home, the resolution is limited to 1080p, and it may be downgraded in case of poor network conditions.

Also, not a single image shows the power cord. If going by the pictures alone, one could easily think it has a battery, but the power spec clearly states 5V⎓2A with no mention of a battery. Of course, a camera like this would need one hell of a battery to actually be beneficial. If they don't want to show a power cord attached to it in isolated product images, fine, but if showing it in a real-world setting, I expect the images to represent the actual look, cords and all. Otherwise, it's kind of deceiving.

Edit: it does have HKSV. my bad!

No HKSV, no buy. As simple as that. I’m not opening my home to anything that does not encrypt on LAN before going to WAN.

Thats a homekit limitation tho, if Apple updates their software this should improve with it.

I have an aqara doorbell cam and use HomeKit but I hate how it records after motion is detected and stops recording while an event is in progress. Do you have this same issue? I think it's a HomeKit limitation
