Hi

I have the 1st Gen 4K Apple TV and want to connect 2 homepods using arc. Is this possible as I am not getting the beta option as I do on my new 2nd Gen 4K Apple TV?

Is it possible with a software update from Apple or is the hardware unable to allow ARC and eARC?
What are you trying to do? The Apple TV is just a media player. It does not need ARC, because it does not need to ever receive anything back from the TV. ARC is only relevant for TVs and speakers.

I want to play back other devices like Sky TV and Xbox to play through homepods same as with my 4K 2nd gen in my main room

Gotcha. No, I am pretty sure you cannot do that. The ATV cannot receive an audio stream like that.

Indeed, I don't think any media player can do that.

Thank you.
Looks like I need another new 4K AppleTV as this works perfectly in the main room

the older 4K doesn't have the necessary hardware to do it

only the 2nd version that came out this year does.

the new version of the 4k does it, but only works if you've got HomePods selected as the default output. doesn't work with any other speakers connected via airplay, and I don't think It will work for bluetooth headphones. So currently only the full size HomePods, Support for the minis coming with tvOS 15 later this year.

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense

The new Apple TV 4K allows you to do this.

I see it now. That's pretty neat actually.

I wonder if this means Apple has an HomePodTV product in the pipeline, a HomePod-like soundbar with tvOS built-in. Like a Roku Streambar, but better. They've basically got all the ingredients now, and we know how much Apple loves AiOs.
