I'm curious about how often posts, threads, and forums are archived (put in the Archives of Older Posts forum), then removed from the database and converted to static HTML (and put in the REALLY old posts area).

Posts are "archived" - in that no one is allowed to respond to them any more intermittantly... but no specific time period.

No posts are actually removed from the database

The "archive" portion of the forums is a bit of a misnomer.... previously, it was required to archive them in this format so search engines could index them... with more recent versions of the forums, sites will index the actual threads. So, the archive is there for historic reasons, and as it is still indexed. In the past, you could only get indexed threads found through search engines... these days its a mix of both.
