I agree. People upgrade tablets much less often than a phone or a laptop. The product category will eventually become like the iPod IMO.

The iPhone replaced the iPod, there will need to be a product to replace the iPad. The only only product that I think will replace the iPad is a MacPad and will that really be different than an iPad?

Certain devices were born to fail, the iPod was one of them it was a stopgap product until the iphone came. I just don't really see anything replacing a watch, phone, tablet and a woman's purse. Maybe google glass can, but I don't think that will fly, then again I have never tired it.

I don't think so. I'd say that the whole "tablet" market might be dying sooner than the Mini itself seeing as phones are growing larger (for better or for worse)

No. That isn't going to happen. Apple has already signalled the way things are going to be. You will buy a variety of devices that interoperate via services like handoff – all operate through iCloud. The distinction between a phone and a tablet will simply become less relevant. A tablet will be a big phone, or a phone a small tablet.

The endpoint will be you choosing form factors that suit you. The iPhone 6+ and iPad mini may well merge product lines. It all depends on how hard it is to hook the device into the internet.

The mini just isn't enough of a bigger screen over a phone.

i (myself) disagree
the mini is 3/4 4s phones

i noticed on travel, anything larger than 7-8 inches starts getting UNCOMFORTABLE, anything smaller is perhaps getting too small.

for me.

if apple made the iphone 6+ a close size to the mini, it means that form factor is indeed a 'sweet spot' (but if apple increases later the 6+ size a bit more it's gonna be ridiculous)

imagine if the coming of the 6+ is just to 'high the price of the 7-8 inches in a couple of years - apple not satisfied to get 4-500$ out of it - and the IPHONE will go back to 6 - - inches (5)
all a new line with a higher price tag.

this year move might only be a price tag dragging (up up up) move
rather than a better move

----------

either, the 6+ will gain 1-2 inches more in the future and a NEW iphone comes (a proper size, small phone)

or the mini comes back with a new pricetag(6+), and the iphone gets back to a proper dimension (5-)

the mini was just a pricetag anomaly (too less for apple shareholders) they already added 100$ for nothing, imagine when they put something

I bought an original kindle fire but I never liked the size compared to regular ipad so I hardly ever used it

I don't know if they are dead but they are certainly hitting a wall due to larger phones. The tablet experience is so much better on a larger screen which hurts the mini tablets and the phone users would just as soon use their phones, especially with these giant screens now.

There will always be a market for the medium sized tablets but it won't be a large one when compared to the full size tablet and phone markets. That's all. The companies will keep making them if there is profit to be had.

Upon launching the first iPad, the "GOD" of Apple put his full weight and influence behind the keynote hype as only Steve Jobs could do. With his congregation listening intently he pronounced the computer dead, and told of the rise of the Post PC Era.

Whipping the audience into a frenzy he revealed the iPad!

Driving the excitement higher he proclaimed his new device "Magical & Revolutionary" to which the masses roared and clapped in compete awe.

No one, but no one, other than Steve Jobs with his Apple religion could pull off such a show of power and influence.

Thus the iPad was born, immediately worshipped and embraced. Story after story was told here in this very forum by the faithful, how this magical device was indeed a replacement for their laptops.

Samsung and Google immediately responded to the threat. The race for Post PC success was on.

Now several years later, the world's most influential salesman is dead, there's no one to keep the hype alive. The flock is drifting about without guidance, the magic is gone.

Apple collected the fortune and now, forced to compete on a level playing field, the category is fading. While it will survive, it will do so in a very reduced capacity.

Google killed off its 7" tablets and now Apple appears to be doing the same thing. So is a mini tablet a dead product now?

I don't believe so. I think there will always be a need for a smaller sized and cheaper iPad like the Mini to give consumers more options.

More options is better. I noticed that everyone has been killing off their smaller iPads in favor of bigger one. Initially it was thought that the reverse would be true.

I think alot of people bought tablets because it's the hot new gadget to buy. Many people I know don't use their tablets anymore and don't anticipate buying a new one.

I completely agree!! I had the iPad , iPad2, and iPAd mini. I have sold or given them all away but I do use my father from time to time when i visit. That being said for some people the iPad is their only Computer device. Once OS X and iOS converge, more people will go back to iPads.

I don't think we will see great sales numbers for the iPad in the near future, but it will not die anytime soon.

Yup I agree with you 100%

With the crazy popularity and demand for the 5.5" iPhone, the worst update in apple history for the iPad mini...

Yeah, Apple is basically saying the mini isn't important and will be phased out in a couple years

My guess is Apple focused on the iPad Air 2 because it sells more.

I'm not sure if it sells more or not. I think they only updated the mini in such a limited fashion because they want to sell more of the iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6+. They are both higher profit margin devices.
