Are Adobe AFM and PFM font formats usable in Mac OS X?
No, not natively they're not. They're Windows Postscript fonts.
But, there's a solution here in our own Guides. Can't guarantee it as I personally haven't tried but worth exploring, nevertheless.
Do you have the originals anywhere?
AFM was a necessity to convert industry standard font files to something the fantastic Windows could understand.
AlexisV: Originals? I have the .afm/.inf/.pfb/.pfm formats if that's what you mean.
Blue Velvet: So are there any software solutions that can simply add functionality to OS X so that it can read these fonts? Conversion of formats sounds like a process where something can be lost or altered in the conversion. I saw that Adobe Type Manager doesn't seem to be available for OS X.
