I bought a wifi 32GB Mini, but wanted a cellular. My wifi version is perfect. I'm debating if I need the LTE now. I always have my iPhone 5s on me, but not sure. What made all of you got with the cellular version?

Sprint refuses to activate non-Sprint iPads, even though all iPads Air have identical hardware. Verizon also refuses to activate non-Verizon iPads, but some have reported success in getting them to activate postpaid service on a SIM directly (the only way to get a Verizon SIM is eBay, or a Verizon store acting outside of their policy).

Bottom line: choose which one of the CDMA carriers you prefer. You can then use that iPad on T-Mobile or AT&T.

I was able to go into a Verizon (authorized center) and purchase a new SIM card for $19.99 - no questions asked. I also hear that Verizon will give you one for free if you are a customer…..

That's authorized reseller and not an actual Verizon corporate store, right? From experience, it's the corporate stores that are pretty strict.

Battery drain due to tethering on my iPhone 4. The GPS was a nice bonus and having Find My iPhone working without wi-fi has been very useful.

Hassle of turning tethering on/off on the phone and battery drain on the phone.

GPS is handy for various apps, plus the cellular connection is a benefit for Find My iPhone

Most importantly: my ipad data plan costs less than switching to mobile share or to a data plan that allows tethering.

"What made all of you got with the cellular version?"

Not having cellular on previous versions of my iPad.

I travel a lot. For me, it's a nice emergency backup in case misfortune befalls my iPhone - no power, I leave it somewhere, it breaks.

Ordinarily I use the hotspot option that comes with my Verizon service plan. I opted to purchase the T-Mobile iPad, because I liked the idea of those 200 free megabytes.

By the way, I traveled from L.A. to Phoenix with my new 'Pad Air, and from Phoenix to Moab, Utah - 900 miles. The iPad, when I put it to the test, connected to the Web almost everywhere T-Mobile said it would, which was most of the route, and that included the middle of Monument Valley, on the Navajo reservation.

Are you saying that there is nothing like an iPad Air SIM locked to Sprint?
I live outside US and I have a Sprint iPad Air that won't accept any SIM. How do I get around this?
