iPhone X Are apple going to lock the depth editing away from iPhone X owners?

So the demo of the XS showed the fancy depth slider adjusting focus. Lovely. Fancy new feature only on XS.

Except there are several apps on the iphone X that let you do similar - Focos being the obvious example. So clearly iphone X is storing depth data in portrait photos which 3rd party apps can access.

So will Apple let us edit portrait photos on the X and edit the depth? Or will they lock it out for no clear reason (they shouldn't be expecting X owners to upgrade to XS, and X is being discontinued so for new customers it isn't like they can choose a cheaper option).

If they don’t then just keep using Focos.
well sure, but its convenient having it in the default photos app sometimes. And although focos has more options, it can be a little complicated with its UI
