Are Apple keynotes a secret?

Ok we know Apple hates 99.5% of all bloggers and "rumor" sites. What does Apple consider press? If you work for a newspaper what does its readership need to be at before they will send you an invite?

MacRumors gets invited as do a lot of the larger rumor sites.
Most of these events are closed.

They're not secret, they're just invite only.
Engadget, gizmodo will be liveblogging what the people are saying, uploading pictures of what they're showing, saying what they think about what Apple, Jobs etc are showing.
The keynote is an event for Apple to get the word out. They just like having a polished video stream/download for general public.

lostngone it pays to run a site that has a large member base as it would suggest some people actually put a lot of stock in what these sites have to say.

Also, @pdjudd, aren't the only events that MacRumors Live covers events like Macworld and WWDC (i.e. not invite-only events)?

Would be interesting if this event was halfway towards MacWorld in length, and number of announcements. Could they update iTunes in a big way, will they have Schiller doing a silly iChat/iLife/iWork gag?

fun discussion of Mac News and Mac Rumors, aye. Can't complain when there are pictures of fluffy bunnies (well, one could make one complaint about the type but that's by the by 😉 ).
Will be interesting to see if they try and lockdown live Qik/Kyte/other video livestreaming, seeing as their iPhone product now does it and there will be plenty in the room.

From what I recall there was coverage. Trouble is the last event like this was quite a while ago and I do not recall how that was done - it's very probably that arn simply re-broadcast another live blogger but I don't remember anymore..
Arn goes to the events that he can (like WWDC) since those ones are not invite only...
