With the October 14th date quickly approaching, some are speculating that it may be too late to expect an Apple event to be held on October 14th. That's not to say that Apple can't release new laptops without a media event.

Most of Apple's laptop refreshes have been simple press-release updates that have not triggered full media events. Though, if the recent rumors of radical new case designs are to be believed, one would think that Apple will want to showcase the new laptops to the media.

A rumor posted earlier this month from tw.apple.pro, however, claimed that there would be no October 14th event and the earliest we could expect updates would be November.

We're still not sure what to make of Apple.pro which is the Taiwanese blog that previously posted photos claiming to be of the new MacBook Pro and MacBook. While the site has not yet established a reliable track record at this point, Appleinsider claimed their leaked MacBook Pro image was authentic.

Easy answer:

Currently, WE. KNOW. NOTHING. They'll happen when they happen, shut up with the whining why the current models will instantaneously break when the new ones come out and that's why you need to wait for a new one.

I'm glad I'm not in dire need of a new Macbook. The wait and non-information would kill me. Let them come when they are ready. Don't rush it.

Well with the UK back to school promo ending 31st Oct maybe Apple will wait for it to end and then release the new ones - I know they've released new products during a B2S before but there's nothing to say they can't/won't release them after it this time.

Having said that I really hope they come out soon - not just for the promo but just so I can have a laptop for Uni!

Oh yeah - surely it's much "greener" to send out press releases than invite journalists (etc.) to fly hundreds/thousands of miles to see a new laptop or two(?)

Much as I want them to arrive, I have trouble with it just being a press release? Unless it's a new way of diminishing Steve's influence, trying to let the company establish an indentity besides his?

I am all for hoping that product revisions are still on track for the rumored October 14 date, but the lack of advanced preparation details coupled with the likelihood that Apple would want to showcase the new design process makes me think it will be later rather than sooner. Which makes me say bad words and be angry.

Posted this elsewhere but think it still makes sense:

The thing with the MB and MBP is that there is unlikely to be anything to demonstrate. Yes, they may well be pretty, but that's not really enough for a presentation - the message will get across perfectly well, if not better, with high quality website/press release images. What would happen at the demo - "Here's the new MB and MBP - see how pretty they are! They are still made the same way as before because that lasers and solid metal business is, frankly, prepostorous. Instead, most of the ports are on the power adapter so that its kind of like a docking station. Any questions?". 2 minutes tops?

While the Let's Rock event was pretty light on ground-breaking hardware, it had software, particularly the new Genius feature, which really needed SJ to show it off and convince everyone it was a big deal. It wouldn't have worked to have released iTunes 8 without a demo.

Long term lurker compelled to post...

Very frustrated  by lack of movement, slowly weakening and might pick up a refurb 2.4ghz macbook from refurb store on 15th if nothing is released.

I think the majority of posters on here are in same boat and have been for a few months lol. If nothing happens on tuesday i think it will be too long for many of them since we all been waiting since early summer. And dont get me started on the mini or mac pro updates... :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

I'd be shocked if there was no event. If the iPod event was worthy, surely this is as well.

Wtf?

WTF? My 5-year old 12-inch Powerbook is slowly giving up the ghost, and I need a new Aluminium MacBook to replace it. I've been waiting for the new MacBooks for months now. Apple, YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!

Normally, I don't bother rating a story, but I had to rate this one negative.

It is only but a few days away. A radical case design would prompt for a media event, whereas previous portables released from Apple spawned mild press releases. Perhaps the case design isn't as radical as believed? Maybe just a minor update on 14th and new ones in Jan?

Holiday

Remember Monday is a US holiday. In the past Apple has held events on a Wednesday following a Monday holiday. Which would mean an announcement could come today, seven days prior to the event.

Most of you guys are just ridiculous with all that non-founded speculation. I'm waiting to order mine but all those damn "sources" are getting pretty damn stupid.

Here's my prediction:
-October
-November
-December
-January
-February

My sources are valid, it will come in one of those months.

Remember my prediction when it arrives!

Should I start an official "leak" blog?

I'm pretty sure I'm right!

Do you... yes..... do you hear that pounding right now?

That is the sound of my head smacking against a brick wall right now.

I was wondering that same thing last night. Usually apple releases those cute invitations what a photo or phrase that kind of gives you a clue on what to expect but nothing had been released so far. I worried because if they do update, it would probably be just speed bumps when, in truth, EVERY LINE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED!

Come on apple! What is up with the mac mini?!? It is just SAD at this point!

Everyone is waiting on the laptops but at least they were somewhat current with the standards of the day when they were released. The mac mini came out already the ugly red headed step child.

When these laptops come out and other computers, they are going to have to be radically different in every aspect to even measure up to what is currently now available by its competitors.

I will see what happens on Tuesday and if there are no further rumors then i may just go ahead and buy. I do not own a current macbook and it was the current line which i fell in love with.

As well as this living in the UK i'll get a free nano, which i expect to sell and buy an iPhone with, so everyone wins :D

(first post as well, but a very long time lurker!)

I mean the nice thing about it is, you buy a computer when you have money. If you are waiting for something, then you wait, and no sense getting mad when it doesn't come "when you want". Look at those waiting for the i7 processor, sure it will be 16 times faster than computers built 6 months from now, but you've gotta wait 2 years. I'll might own 3 different computers before it comes out...

I guess it doesn't matter, I have to buy an MBP next week whether they announce a new model or not. I've pushed it back long enough, it's starting to cause workflow problems.

Welcome you lurkers, enjoy the rumors!

agree 100%.

if they make an event without software, it will be relatively short since there is a major lack of anything to show... is that really worth inviting hundreds of people? i think not.

either way, it will be a silent release... the only question is when?

I got my MacBook Pro last month and I couldn't wait for the updates because I required it for school. But I have been telling everyone that the new MacBooks are coming out Next week! My reputation is on the line! I believe rumours too much and I need to stop telling people I have "inside" information when I'm simply a fraud haha
