I have noticed that they capitalise last names, to distinguish them from forenames.

It is hardly a heartening sign for civilisation that it isn't the individual ("the first name") that gets capitalised, but rather the tiresome nonsense that follows, which one doesn't even have the choice of picking for oneself.
 
@it wasnt me, were such conventions decided by me, we'd all be assigned a base-36 identifier, derived from the current UNIX Epoch time-stamp, and utilise that as our formal names. Remarkably enough, when I contacted Hack The Box support yesterday (about a deprecated HackerOne integration of theirs), they actually did this!

I know that service personnel utilise their ZAP number, which is a combination of their JPA identifier and (again) surname, and that emergency service personnel occasionally utilise their force identification numbers.
