Just saw the FaceTime commercial that's been playing and I wondered. Are these real calls? They sure looked as if they were. And for the most part they were holding the phone, yes, in their left hand. This was especially noticed with the deaf couple.

Billy Mays rockes, a pity he died. Back to the issue.

Doesn't FaceTime end if the call is dropped? I thought it did?

? Facetime has nothing to do with a cellular call or 3G, it's entirely done through Wifi. You aren't making a typical phonecall so the only thing dropped is if you move far away from your Wifi signal

FaceTime is through Wifi, not 3G.

If you start the call on 3G then start Facetime it hands it off to Wifi for voice and video.

Now if you start the call as an actual Facetime call then it never touches 3G and is only on wifi at that point.

One thing has been bothering me about the facetime commercial. The deaf guy was in the military. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let you in the military if you can't hear. Even in some kind of radar job you'd be pretty handicapped because if **** was going down I don't think they'd have time to sign an order to you. /rant

Not everyone in the military is involved in combat. 🙄

this is like asking if the cheeseburgers in the commercials are real... of course it's not, it's a commercial, they are trying to sell it..

To be completely honest I think the video in the ads looks higher quality than a real facetime call.

Dont get me wrong though, FaceTime can be a great laugh, it may be one of the lesser used features but its awesome none the less

Not everyone who knows sign language is deaf.

Oh, so that's it! Silly me thought it was his girlfriend that was deaf and he was signing to her. I mean, since neither the guy or the girl give any real indication of which one of them may be deaf. But I'm sure your interpretation is correct. Thanks for clearing that up.

Except, the dude has a hearing aid on. (I've watched it a few times, lol)

FaceTime runs on wifi only, but still requires an active sim card. I tried to make a FaceTime call without it, but didn't work.

i'm going to have to watch it again now haha.

I think you guys are confusing the commercial segments. The guy in the military was doing facetime with his wife/gf while she was getting the ultrasound. The next segment was the sign language exchange between another couple.

Ah, that he does. Missed that. Also, the guy that is signing is not wearing any military garb or is in a room that has any military related stuff in it. Military guy was the one right before the signing couple, so I'm not sure what Jamz00 is talking about.

Edit: torid110 beat me to it.

I hate the facetime commercials they seem pretty fake 😛 What they should have done was showed someone using the camera with a voice in the background and then zoomed away from the display and introduced facetime that way.

haha I thought they looked like 2 different guys, but the girls look the same. Poor casting on Apple's part.
