From Using StuffIt Deluxe (pdf):
StuffIt Helper is an application program that launches every time you start up your computer with TFI (True Finder Integration) turned on. Because StuffIt Helper is a necessary part of TFI, you will need to leave it running if you want to continue using TFI. If you quit the StuffIt Helper application, you will have to relaunch it again in order for the TFI functions to work.
