I'll be picking up my M1 MBP in a few hours and I was wondering with all the reported screensaver and waking from sleep problems I've seen reported what people are doing with theirs.
Are you turning screensavers off and letting it sleep less often or does this not make a lot of difference?
Thanks.

Ive had one case where the laptop didnt wake from sleep and just had a mouse pointer I can see and move around. I had to hard shutdown. I dont how I got into that situation. I have just been closing the lid and that has not caused any further problems.

That's what I was thinking about.
If I turn off the screensaver and don't let it sleep until I shut the lid I was hoping that would be ok, as the general fix for these problems seems to be closing and opening the lid.
Thanks :)

I turned my screensaver off and sleep it as much as I did with my Intel MBA and don’t have any problem so far.

I use Hot Corners, and set my top-left corner to sleep the display.

When I leave my computer, I simply gesture up to the top-left of the screen to sleep the display, saving battery life and preventing any screen burn in.

Thanks for that.
I've ended up with a base spec M1 MBP after all :)
My BTO Air wasn't moving from "processing" so I looked at ordering another to find that my local Apple store had a base spec one for collecting today, so I grabbed it!

fliqlo is cool but I prefer it not to use some screensavers and since big sure makes problems with turning off screen I manually turn on off monitor and have disabled power off in the Mac settings.

I'm just trying to sort out a dodgy beta 11.2 update I'm being offered.
I'd rather just have 11.1 but it's not being offered :-(
You must be signed up for developer (beta) updates.

It's probably tied to your account.

Can you not "unsubscribe" from any beta firmware?

That's the problem, I've never been enrolled in a beta programme for macOS.
When I saw it was only on version 11.0 I expected the update to be 11.1 but 11.2 beta is being offered and it says I'm enrolled when I'm not.
A bit odd.

I have had my MBA for about a week. I did notice that the screen saver did not kick in, the screen just went blank when I left it for some time. Is there a known issue with screen savers that I missed? Thanks for any update.

I don’t even remember when was the last time I turned on screen savers, lol. I lock and let the laptop go to sleep. If the lid is open just touch the Touch ID and boom you are in! If the lid is closed, open and you are good to go as well!

The panels in the laptops are LED panels, not OLED, so there is no risk of burn-in happening. Unless I am mistaken?

I think he meant he doesn't want to lose battery lighting up his screen when he's not using it.

Edit: Oh I didn't see his last sentence lol. I think this is a myth from when we first got flat screen TV because plasma panel indeed had burn in people assumed every type of flat screens also had one.

Easily repeatable issue with my brand new M1 Mac Mini where screen saver locks, reboot required, typically using UltraVNC remote from windows.

Cntrl+Cmd +Q or Cntrl+shift+eject could work but need keycode

Same for me with my m1 mac mini. I've had to disable the screen saver or else every time I come back to my mac, I can't do anything and I have to hold down the power button and kill it

seems like M1's have not been properly QA'd by Apple. so many different variables and issues amongst the M1 devices i've tried thus far. be it external display limitations, external display issues, peripherals not always working, wake from sleep pixel glitches or unable to log in, random slowness and having to restart the device quite often.

a lot of this is apple, and some are 3rd parties, but hopefully with the convergence of apple silicon across all Apple hardware there shouldn't be an excuse by any of them to not have things patched and compatible.

I use a screensaver and allow my M1 MBA to sleep, no untoward problems caused by it. My intel Mac Mini I have set to not sleep, but it does server type tasks.
