I have never had sleep or wake issues with my mini, although I have had kernel panics on occasion related to external storage.

I'll be picking up my M1 MBP in a few hours and I was wondering with all the reported screensaver and waking from sleep problems I've seen reported what people are doing with theirs.
Are you turning screensavers off and letting it sleep less often or does this not make a lot of difference?
Thanks.

I like to keep the Mac awake. Just the Display is sleeping. I use the prevent computer from sleeping... command in Energy Saver preferences.

The only wake from sleep issues I had were with a couple of Rosetta apps. I don't use screen savers I just sleep the Air by putting the screen down.

Easily repeatable issue with my brand new M1 Mac Mini where screen saver locks, reboot required, typically using UltraVNC remote from windows.

Cntrl+Cmd +Q or Cntrl+shift+eject could work but need keycode
Quick press of power button brings it back, but I have to go to the mac mini to do so. I used the migration assistant to bring over files, some applications from much older intel mac mini, which was entirely headless. For now, I have it connected intermittently to shared monitor, logitech unifying usb mouse and WINDOWS keyboard, but the screen saver stays locked until the power button is briefly pressed. Both remote vnc and local keyboard/mouse are locked out though screensaver running. Only the power press will bring it back. Not acceptable for me. If there is a keycode for the power press, or the key sequence, such as Cntrl+Cmd +Q (mentioned in the article above) that would be helpful that could be a way out. I on on the latest Big Sur 11.4 ... for now I still see this as an issue with Mac OS or screen saver. I do not have a Mac native keyboard, otherwise I would try the key sequences. I have definitely attempted Win/Cntrl, Win/Alt + Q no luck. I don't have an EJECT key on the Windows keyboard, but I suspect that may work. If this were Mac Air or Mac book (we have several), I would try that. For my IT work, many Windows/Macs in the house, but I personally use Windows w VNC, TV free, Anydesk so let me know if anyone has similar issues or may provide the key code to try in UltraVNC, etc.

That’s not good to do IMHO! Those programs should downloaded to current conversation then just put you key into the new downloads! Trust me because I’ve been now through two new processes being an OS X guy! Apple cut of PPC code only two versions after so you are borrowed time!

Do people realize that using screensaver is a relic from the past when CRT monitors are burn-in issues? You don't need to use screensavers. It's a waste of energy.

We're aware. But just because you've posted the same obnoxious thing twice on one page, I will program a routine that maxes my Intel CPU for an hour today, doing nothing productive at all.

What's the matter? Did I bother you? Hurt your feelings? 🤣

I guess I am lucky, I use a screensaver on my M1 Pro and don't have any problems waking the computer up. It just performs normally/as expected. I would say try to use it normally and if you run into any problems you can always change the settings but most likely you should be okay.

I don't use a screen saver. I see no real point in it, when turning off the screen via a hot corner accomplishes the same goal. I also don't see the point in putting the M1 to sleep. Today's hardware is made to run 24/7.

I have a 13” MBP M1 running 11.4 and I use a screensaver all the time. I have never had an issue with it.

#1 the post history crawl is extreme weird behavior. If this hasn't been pointed out to you yet in your internet socializing, allow me to make it clear.

#2 you posted the same thing twice on one page since no one acknowledged you the first time you posted it. No one cares if you think screen savers are a waste of energy.

I use good old open GL Euphoria screensaver on M1 MBA 8/8/512 since December with no problems. Runs via Rosetta ofc.
