They are the most reliable laptop you can buy, imo. I've never had an issue with mine that I've had for over 6 months, compared to my previous HP Envy where I had a hard drive failure, keyboard failure, and trackpad failure, all within the first 6 months. OSX is like an ecosystem because everything is just seamless.

OMG me too. My HP probook, unfortunately, died due to a hard drive failure.

Absolutely love my MBP. Upgraded to 16GB RAM and it flies!!!

It's been rock solid so far, no issues!! It does heat up a bit but nothing to be concerned about!

I've always used Windows laptops and desktops [ still do ] and this is my first Mac computer, and it's great! There's nothing wrong with my windows PCs either, but I find myself shifting towards the MBP more and more as the days go by!

True, plus the re-sale value is a good thing too. :)

Let's see... 2008 model bought in 2008.

Used 4-8 hours a day, every day.

Lots of travel.

Not treated with kid gloves.

Absolutely no issues with the hardware, still on the original HD.

Even if there is something wrong with it there is an apple store near by that you can go to and drop it off.

If it's not nearby I would imagine you can call the closest apple store and ship it out. At least it's not like Sony or Asus where you have to ship it to China. You won't see it for 2-3 weeks.

So basically the consensus deems the Macbook Pro is a very reliable machine that will last for years?

Are MacBook Pro's reliable? In my experience, very. By the way, don't judge them based on threads you've seen on this forum, as problems are the main reason people come to forums like these. For example, would you say "there are so many sick people in this city" because there are a lot of sick people in the city's hospital?

I used my 2006 MacBook every day for the past 6 years. I took it to class, work sometimes, around the house, on vacation, to granny's... everywhere. The only issue I had was an inverter cable going bad. It was $50 for Apple to fix it, parts and labor, and they ended up not charging me for it. This was 5 years into owning it.

I have since upgraded to a 2010 MacBook Pro. When I first got it, I swapped out the hard drive. When I did, I noticed the hard drive sits in a rubber/plastic shock absorbing tray thing. I've never seen this in other laptops, although I normally don't open up laptops. This may be the reason Apple hard drives seem to last longer. I think the only reason I've had to replace mine was after I dropped the MacBook on the floor.
