    Hi Forum,

I am internationally traveling soon and the company who will provide a local micro SIM mailed me and said that so long as the iPad is unlocked and supports 3G the SIM will work. Are both verizon and at&t unlocked? I know maybe not for SIMS's in the US but how about abroad?

    -Thanks

Yes, both Verizon and AT&T are unlocked for 3G GSM while abroad.

So does this mean that one does not really need to worry if they have a Verizon or AT&T new iPad when traveling abroad?

Correct, either will work with a locally purchased GSM sim card.

Here is the frequency the micro sim will run on. It is not GSM it is:

    W-CDMA / HSDPA / HSUPA
    2100MHz / 800MHz

Any idea if verizon or at&t matter now?

    thanks for answering

I believe both are unlocked for only GSM sims.

Interesting because this company http://www.econnectjapan.com/products-page/wifi/microsim cliams that the iphone 4, 4s, ipad , and ipad 2 are compatble with the micro SIM running the connectivity mentioned above.

Any reason? I am a bit confused.

I would check with the company directly and tell them which new iPad you plan on purchasing to see which will work with their micro-sim.
