iPod Are new iPods due anytime soon?

I am in the market for a new iPod, but the current 30GB version lacks the capacity I need, and the 60GB is too thick.

Is there any chance that Apple will update the iPod line by August 12th? (My wife's birthday).

There will probably be one by then, and probably one soon, but no one here knows how long it will be. Wait as long as you can, and purchase what ever you need.

On paper I thought it wasn't that different as well, but when I went to my local Apple Store to try... it seemed 40% bigger!

i agree with balli, it doesnt seem much different untill u actually hold. then the thing is like a brink. its almost as thick as the sidekick.

I think that the issue is that due to the new top section of the ipods being so thin, the balance of metal to plastic seems really uneven on the 60gig model. Aesthetically, i think that this serves to make the 60 gig look larger than it is, and a little less atractive than the 30 gig model, which is more balanced, akin to the 20/30 gig 4th and 3rd gen ipods
