are new MB Pro low end releases typically more expensive or ...

    ... or do the prices generally stay the same as the previous release so that you get more bang for the buck?

    For instance, I can get the low end MB Pro Retina 13" for $1199 on the Mac For Education page. When new retina 13" come out, would I expect to find an offering for $1199 that has better specs, or are they typically more expensive and then the price drops later?

    I've not followed Apple Store pricing to know how it usually works.

    In the past they've held constant price points and offered better features. I think prices have more variation now, but not by much. I suspect that at the 1199 price point, look for better specs at the same price.

    Yep

    Usually stays the same, unless a big, new hardware feature is introduced, such as SSDs in the MBP or retina screens.

    But even then, the cost increase is usually on par with the increased value of the features.

    That all being said, it's hard to go wrong with a refurb.
