fall in love with PEOPLE... and dogs! but not with machines.. don't fall in love with your car, even if it's a Ferrari.... needless to say, don't fall in love with your computer... be practical!:D

if everyone here went by that reasoning, then we'd all have pc's.

I work at an Apple Reseller and they fix old machines and sell them and also sell new ones

*SNIP*

Wow people are so stupid....spending more on a old machine then almost a new one

You must be on the sales team.

Why insult the people who are paying your wages? If they choose to overpay for repairs, let them - its their money. I am curious how many of those repair costs are over-inflated because your employeer knows that they can take advantage of people's attachment.

Someone spent 750 dollars fixing a powerbook Titanium? (used macbooks are like 900)

Someone spent 1800 dollars fixing a powermac G5 2.0ghx..(used macpros or almost new one)

Someone spent 375 dollars fixing iBook Clamshell (wow what a waist)

Someone spent 1050 dollars on iMac G5 17'' (hello iMac 20 aluminum)

Someone spent 225 dollars fixing a Powerbook G3? (wow)

Someone spent 650 on 17' iMac G4 (ok then)

Generally getting something fixed is a lot more hassle free than going through the process of spec'ing, ordering, waiting for & setting up a brand new machine.

Have you considered the personal convenience factor? If I can afford it and will put me to far less bother, why not do it?

Apple charges $850 for 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) upgrade. I just purchased similar 4GB for < $80 retail. Who is clueless in that reality?

Not all decisions in life should be made on an economic basis. This is true even for decisions about things. I have overpaid to fix things just because I was attached to them, never a computer but the idea is plausible. Also you usually do not have to totally re-configure your old standby.
