i love winter. sun, heat and humidity drive me right up the wall

i love fall the best but really, you you like winter sports, then winter is awesome

do people forget how EXCITED everyone gets with he first snow of the year?

In a few months I will be moving to upstate NY, and I couldn't be more excited about it.

Where about? I lived in CO, then upstate NY (Capital Region) for a year, then back to CO

It rains and snows so much more up there then what you will be used to and the winters last a lot longer. The summers a a bit more humid as well then the dry climates you and I are used to..just fyi

lol yeah but i hate snow, it usually ruins my routine and a typical day, due to the fact we dont get it that often, snow shuts down everything here, like a few months back, councils dont bother gritting and everything grinds to a halt

Binghamton. I'm moving for graduate school.

I'm looking forward to the extreme change in climate. I hate that it never rains here, I love the snow, and my skin doesn't do well in the arid air here. Bring on the humidity.

the grass is greener on the other side.

that sums everything up.

when you are in the NE and you see all the snow and ice..Florida or anyplace warm looks like paradise.

when you are down here with the humidity in August, those cool NE summer nights with a gentle breeze looks like paradise.

i suppose the best way is to have 2 homes and just go back and forth.

are people actually happier in warmer weather? I would guess not really, but again happiness is really just your comparison of reality vs. expectations so its tough to say.

The grass is not always greener. That does not sum everything up. :)

I really am happier in warmer climate. I do not miss the cold/snow/rain/humidity.

I was raised in the North East and lived in the Midwest for the last 30 years. We now live in Fort Worth Texas and I am happier. The Midwest at 94° with 90 + % of Humidity was worse than 100-103 in Texas. But the best part is seeing a blue sky for so much of the year.

I think people living in colder climates are happier. We can more easily justify vacationing someplace warm just to escape the cold.

Plus, winter weather means no yard work, mosquitoes or black flies and lots of snowmobiling, skiing, hot tubs and peppermint schnapps. :D

No!!!! .. because in Florida we have to deal with the nitwit tourists and the snowbirds who come down in the winter because THEY don't want to deal with the cold.

I depends on who you are. Warm weather tends to make me sluggish and crabby. I don't like it when you sweat from simply sitting. I'm a big fan of winter and could never live further south.

BTW- it's been in the 50-60s here this week. I got rid of my coat at 50 degrees. I will still sweat just walking to work if I have a jacket on.

While I don't like freezing cold, I wouldn't change having 4 seasons for anything.

Interesting to see all the comments. I suppose "ideally" if you could live in, say... Hawaii (as somebody said), would you be happier there? Not too hot, ocean breeze, wear year-round...would you be "happier" there as opposed to extreme hot or cold conditions?

I understand the grass is always greener side. Up here a lot of folks say they hate the cold and want to move somewhere south. Down there, it may be the opposite. Or maybe it is sunshine, rather than temperature as somebody else pointed out.

Perhaps the conclusion is that we are only happy when surrounded by things that make us happy. When it is 18 degrees up here in the mountains and I am outside shoveling snow in the freezing cold, I wish I was in sunny Florida. If I am in 100 degree weather sweating my butt off in Phoenix, I may long for a cool summer night up here. Is happiness only what you make of it? Is this why vacations make us happy, because we get to escape reality and see where other people live year-round?

I still haven't found any formal studies on this...

I would say warmer climate would at least make me happier.

But hey i live in Norway. (freeking cold here during winter)
I spent 1 mont in Malaysia last year (February) and that was the best time of my life. have never been happier. 28 - 32 celsius every day and rain for 1-2 hours of the day. then there was some few days with more rain.
But i loved it. and it was a lot less buggs than i expected.

2 More years back in norway and i am moving abroad again. Malaysia or Singapore is the options i have.

It's perfect

I find that too. I can't wait for the summer months when its winter, and vice versa. But the extremes of both are terrible. Too cold and you don't want to go out, too hot and you can't escape it.

Same! Whenever I'm on holiday somewhere where its really hot I find I sleep longer and have a general sluggish feel going on. It ruins holidays for me.

Indeed. It doesn't snow often enough for us to invest properly in measures to keep the country running...so when it does snow it brings the entire country to a stand still!

I still love it though!

I disagree. I've been living in MA for many years and people around here are generally not as nice and often quite morose. Same goes to NY which has some a good amount of people with attitude. Going to CA twice within last few months I was pleasantly surprised to find out that even the waitresses are nice which is something I don't see around here often.

I hate this place, this zoo, this prison. ;) If I wasn't stuck here because of friends and family I would've moved out of here a long time ago.

I think to a large degree it's what you make of where you live.

Every place has some fun things to do -- especially if you set your mind to finding them.

Firstly, a ranking of the countries with the happiest citizens is released every year, and countries like Ireland and New Zealand have topped the list a number of times. Countries like Finland, The Netherlands, Canada, and several others also do very well. Their citizens live in countries that are nowhere near the equator, or what could be described as a "warm" climate except in summer.

Just FYI. ;)
