People are clueless about many things, cause each of us has our expertise, that is how we:

- work with computers
- cars
- plumbing
- financial markets
- etc.

pick some area you don't understand, I am sure someone is going to laugh at you and think you are clueless.

(And I bet the guy was talking about RAM on computers, not hard drives).

While I partially agree, any smart person would have the good sense to not pretend that they know what they're talking about.

I agree with this to an extent. But, we aren't talking about advanced computer knowledge here. We are talking about basic ability to operate a computer. It is, to me, concerning that there are so many people who lack even the most basic understanding of computers. And its not because they can't learn, its because they don't want to bother. As time goes on of course, this will likely improve, but it still startles me that some people can't even get around the file system, or have no idea how to start a program unless there's an icon for it on the desktop.

You mention fixing cars, etc... but to me, something like computer programming or IT is analogous to fixing cars. Sure, you don't expect people to know about C++ if they aren't computer people. But the basics, I expect them to know - just like a mechanic or cop ("car people") expects people to know the difference between a 4 cylinder and a V6, to know that they need to change their oil periodically, and to know what to do if the stop light is blinking.

I'm not bragging when I say that I probably have the most common sense in my entire grade.
:)
Today I overheard some kid in my english class talk about his new house that his parents are having built.
Kid 1: My new house is awesome! It'll be done in 3 weeks!
Kid 2: How much did it cost?
Kid 1: Over 1,000 at least
Me: 1,000? Oh really, your rich!:D
Kid 1: I know, I don't know how my parents can afford it!

Recently I was working at a store promoting those 3G Mobile Broadband things (don't know how their called in English) and I sold one to this lady. The next day the came buy with her Vista laptop because she couldn't install the software.
So I tried to install it myself, I though there was going to be some kind of error or something. But what happened was that when you had the window to allow or deny the software to be installed she chose "deny"... And she couldn't understand why she couldn't install it...
