Oh wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you! That is exactly why I've been very hesitant to purchase a power bank, even though I'm really starting to need one. All the stuff with the note 7 really got me to think about what I have in my home and re-evaluate whether I want extra lithium batteries lying around. I know it's still relatively rare for one to actually catch fire, but still, it scares the crap out of me.

So if I got this right, you weren't using the battery when it started smoking? Yikes...

That is correct i wasn't using it. I had finished using it maybe an hour before. I have used several over the years. I still have several smaller ones sitting around the house. I have only had issues with this one brand, I don't want to blame it totally on the brand, maybe that particular model is defective.

What I would like to get is a portable battery pack that change be charged up with a regular iPhone LIGHTNING CABLE, and than same basic LIGHTNING cable to charge the phone with.

In other words, I hate having to find a USB & Mini USB cable that is required with all standard battery packs. I would much prefer to use the same iPhone cable to charge the phone, and use it to charge the battery bank.

Does this exist, a Anker or Aukey battery pack like this?

It was hard it figure out exactly what you were saying at first. Focus on what you are writing instead of changing the color and making it bold.

Short answer, yes it exist.

Yes I agree, I wrote that on my way out of the house (with the GF breathing down my neck), and I didn't re-read what I had written.

So, it does exist, cool, I will start to search for an appropriate portable Battery Pack that can be charged (input), and (output) to an iPhone (with the standard Lightning cable). This way I don't have to carry around an extra Mini-USB cable to charge just the battery pack.

Aukey has a few of them on their site, I agree it is convenient to use one type of charger that is for sure.

Just got myself the Anker power core slim 5000 and I absolutely love it!

This I agree. Bought this one almost without hesitation and it's a lot better than the PowerCore 5000. I grew tired of Anker using cylindrical battery cells (which is an inefficient design according to Apple) but the PowerCore Slim 5000 is finally a step in the right direction in terms of portability.
