Are software like iTerm2 and Alfred still needed in 2024? Or did Apple catch up

Title question.

I used to use all these stuff in the previous years, but at this point I feel like using the default apps.

What about you? I’m interested in a dev’s point of view.

Terminal app has not changed in years. So no Apple catch up.

Shortcuts has not significantly changed the capabilities on Apple's automation tools. So, if you needed Alfred for its automation (workflows) then no change there. For app launching and document/file finding, command-space is better than it was, but not enough to significantly reduce my use of Alfred.

But no harm in trying to use just the default apps. See how you go.

iTerm2 is absolutely packed with extra features compared to Terminal.app. It's definitely not necessary, but if you're interested in exploring/using extra features then it's still worth it.

Spotlight is sufficient for me. As a former user of third-party launcher type apps (Quicksilver, LaunchBar), I haven't bothered with them for years.
