My reception is great. bEtter than any phone I've had before
I can't replicate the deathgrip even when trying

I don't know, it varies.

My phone drops calls every other time, (although I have a case now and all seems well) but my friend's hasn't dropped one yet.

Wait a second...... This is something! Someone actually bought the 8 GB 3GS!?!?! This is more news worthy then all of the iPhone 4 issues combined!

:p

And thanks to that video, found the HTC Hero doing the same thing.

lol yeah that's mine. I bought the 8GB 3GS for a several reasons. Besides the option to exchange within 30-days in case I freak out and change my mind (which the refurbished 16GB 3GS does not have...it's considered a close-out item). And in the end, I decided to make my first iPhone purchase an anxiety and stress-free one while I wait for the next version of this new hardware to (hopefully) have all of these engineering quirks taken care of. And my kid got an awesome trip to the zoo since I saved $100 that day.

Or is it exaggerated a little? Just ordered mine and I'm curious. Do the bumper cases really fix the problem?

Its not really the antenna issue I have a problem with, its been Apple's response.

I love the duel cameras and the GPS and the apps so I was hell bent on an iPhone 4 this August but right now I'm seriously considering looking into one of the Android devices.

Apple's response to legitimate consumer issues caused by design flaws with their product has been completely and totally unacceptable. If this is how Apple treats their *very* loyal customers who sink piles of cash into their products and are vocally supportive of the company then I'd frankly rather not be one anymore.

I think Apple has become drunk off their previous successes and simply way too arrogent for their own good now.

@OP:

No, its not even close to being as widespread as people claim it is. I'm up to 18 people I know with iPhone 4's and not single one, including me has a single problem with it.

As with anything you read on the internet a few people have problems, the other 99% is myth.

No.

Somehow people can't figure out a way to use the phone without touching ~1% of the perimeter surface area, it's ridiculous.

You will see bars drop, but it isn't nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Despite my hopes and dreams that mine would not have this problem, it does. (seemingly my house is where technology goes to die/where everything broken ends up) I generally don't hold the phone that way so it isn't an issue, unless I make a call (which isn't too frequent) I end up holding the phone over the seam and have had 2 calls drop as a result. So yes, it does happen and it does suck. Thankfully, I have a free case in the mail.

How do you know what their response is? How do you know if it isn't a software issue? The only one that can confirm this is Apple. How do you know they won't issue a recall in the future? How do you know the might not tweak the design internally later?

You don't react to complaints after a day or two. You have to collect data, investigate the issue and later evaluate possible solutions, and if possible issue a solution. The Apple press release was a stop-gap solution so people can **** for a while. The iPhone 4 certainly has issues, but making blanket statements that Apple isn't treating their "loyal" customers properly is very naive and ignores how things work in the real world.

You are simply assuming too much.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone is saying. There may already be a thread on this but people should ask 'If you have the antenna issue does it actually affect your calls', I suspect many would say no!

Yes it does lose some bars but the last time I made a call I was talking, not looking at how many bars I have. I have yet to have a dropped call and the closest I have come is through the proximity sensor playing up which could be causing some people to hang up.

The new antenna design has given me much faster and accurate GPS and WiFi in places I could never get with my 3GS. I am happy and expect Apple to fix most software bugs with an update sooner rather than later.

I think my signature says it all. Its been over exaggerated by a ridiculous amount because its the iPhone and its Apple.

If Im completely honest, if I had never seen the antenna issue mentioned on ther news and on the web I can honestly say I would never have noticed it myself. But then Im not left handed either.

the bars do drop on my phone, but so far no impact on usage.

My experience as well. I can make the bars drop if I try really hard, but it appears to have no effect on my actual call. For the most part, the phone holds calls, has better reception, and better data connectivity than my 3G ever did. I was pretty much guaranteed a disconnect a few times a day with the old phone. No such issues, so far at least, with the new phone.

Love it by the way!

The signal issue is not that bad for me. I genrally get 4-5 bars everywhere and the drop when you hold it wrong hasnt been big enough for me to drop a call yet.

I was playing a game on my phone ysterday in an average signal area and i managed to get the phone to say no service because of the way i was holding it. But it is not as big a problem as the media make it out to be.

Haven't had a problem so far.

I quite often listen to a lot of streamed audio and when I'm the move, I used to have problems with my 3G when moving into a poor reception area and audi often would stop - this hasn't happened to me once with the IP4. Also, WiFi speeds are soooooo much faster, which I love.

I have had a problem with the iPhone 4 dropping calls and I do have the signal attenuation issue.

My advice to anyone that has asked is that this is a great phone, and if you would normally be using it in an area of high signal strength you will likely never be affected by the attenuation issue. It is also possible that you may hold your phone different than I do, or that you prefer to use a case, which will also result in this issue not affecting you.

You should buy the phone directly from Apple as they have the best return policy if you don't like it.

I have dropped calls on a daily basis. I rarely if ever did with the 3G and 3GS. I shouldn't have to "hold the phone properly".
