Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my early '08 died of a "logic board failure." They said that it didn't pass their tests far enough to confirm that it was nVIDIA's fault, and flat-out refused me a fix for less than £450ish. But I'll be screwed sideways if it wasn't all the signs & symptoms of GPU failure and they were just being stubborn. I mean, an early '08 model--what are the odds that it's logic board and NOT GPU? Plus, either way both are going to get replaced, it's just a matter of whether a uni student or a giant electronics firm pays for it! I babied that computer like nobody's business and it got me nowhere. Not going to be quite so anal about my new one.
Heading back for a short holiday home (the States) and will be taking it to my local Apple Store where I know the nice people and I know that they will do everything in their power to prove it's a GPU failure, and if not, they'll give me a flat-rate cost of repair. Although I am mightily happy with my 2011 13"
Anyway, long story short--yeah, avoid it. And even though they'll fix that failure within four years of purchase...you're coming up on that anyway.
