I am not able to find the NVIDIA web drivers anymore for the GTX 980. Did NVIDIA take them down?

Does anyone know if Sierra has them built in?

There were never any official web drivers for the 980. You have to search for an official Mac Edition product like the GTX 680 or Quadro K5000. There are plenty of links floating around, for example in the sticky thread at the top of the forum or here:

Hmm. I am running my Mac Pro on official NVIDIA drivers with my GTX 980. Strange.

Actually Nvidia web drivers do add support for the GTX 900's, it just isn't publicly stated because the only Mac capable of running it is the Mac Pro PRE-2013 models

Looks like there is a GTX 600 series driver for Sierra. Should I install that?

If it doesn't work without the driver, yes, I know the GTX 650 has native drivers for OS X

The drivers aren't card-specific, but they are very specific to OS X version number, even down to the build number. Every build of OS X has its own Nvidia driver that works with that one build only. I strongly recommend just using the list on macvidcard's website posted above.

Furthermore, if you didn't keep your old card and you didn't get this one flashed, I strongly recommend enabling some method of RDP/VNC/Screen sharing for later.

There are official drivers from Nvidia, and they do include proper support for Maxwell cards. But that's not the same thing as official GTX 980 drivers. The official supported card list for the web drivers stops at the GTX 680. I think that's the source of the confusion in this thread.

Right, you can only find drivers if you search for official Mac Edition cards, like the GTX 680. Other PC cards, including all Maxwell GPUs, are unofficial/beta and thus not officially supported.
