Ok, now you just made me wonder. How could you tell if someone is using two user names?
Mark Felt lets us know. :D

Some members who double-register simply aren't aware of the rule. For example, they lost their password so they sign up again. They often explain this in a post, PM us about it, or another member points it out. Then we help them and close one membership to straighten it out.

If a member reregisters thinking to get around being banned, they are usually spotted quickly because they go back to whatever bad habits got them banned in the first place, so they get reported.

I see. So there's no way of knowing if it's the same person (without Mark Felt's help ;) ), if they change their habits and don't tell you who they are?

If they have become a completely different person, including a new personality and newly discovered manners and social skills, perhaps they aren't the same person anyway! I can say, however, that double-registration has not been a major problem here. Most people are aware of the rule and very few ever violate it.

I.E., Mac users (or Windows users who want Macs, like me) are smart enough to comprehend the fact that you register ONCE where as a Windows forum would be like, "Hey dotdotdot32, I thought you were dotdotdot13?" "I am... I lost my password." "Oh"

Bolding is mine. :D
