Don't think so, unless maybe you jump through some hoops. But you can install Navi-X, which was my main reason for installing xbmc on my ATV2.

    http://website.navi-x.org/

Really though, I do have a PS3, but have not used it once since I got an ATV2 a few weeks ago. JB'd it before I even plugged it in and installed Plex and xbmc and I've got more content than I know what to do with. Already cut my DirecTV bill by 50% and hoping I can get my wife used to the ATV and say goodbye to cable/satellite forever.

Never tried streaming Icefilms on the PS3 either. Works fine on the ATV though. I know you want more info, and I don't have it. As far as I know, Navi-X is the only XBMC related plugin you can install on the PS3. But I could be wrong, I haven't ever really dug into the PS3, to see what could be "added-on" to be honest.

I personally wouldn't call the PS3 web browser a capable browser in this day and age. Even from launch it was years behind other browsers. I tried to stream stuff using it, but it was just so slow (and it's not the connection; that I'm sure of).

I'm fairly certain there's no way to install XMBC onto it. Depending on your video formats (I'm sure you want the apps XMBC has to offer, too), you probably don't need it for playback purposes for the ps3. The only problem format I've run into is the .mkv container.

Why else do you want a ps3? Games? Blu Ray? If you just want an XMBC box, I'd recommend buying and hacking an ATV2, since it's much cheaper and can run the software you want. If you want the games and blu ray, the ps3 is still a very capable device for video playback. I use Rivet (free courtesy of the Little App Factory) to stream local content to my ps3 and it's very seamless. The biggest limitation the ps3 has, in regards to playing back files, is that it can't handle files larger than 4GB (internally; streaming doesn't seem to be a problem) and has trouble with BD+ rips (copy-protection-related).

Depends what you are looking for in a BD player. At launch it was the cheapest BD player but that is no longer the case. It chews more power than other BD players because it also has a hard-drive and a motherboard made for games and this also makes it more noisy too. You also need to buy a remote separately if the Dual-Shock controller is too much for whoever will have to use it.

On the plus side, the firmware is easily upgradable and in the past this has opened up new features like 3D movie compatibility. It also plays games! How about that?! For games, the PS3 is arguably the best console on the market today so that should be a big factor in any decision to purchase a PS3.
