Simple answer is no. I will develop a bit on that.

- I don't buy first generation products.
- I will gain some portability at cost of hugely loss performance. I need the performance and efficiency that my current late 2013 rMBP 15' offers, plus I would lose the ability of playing games at optimum settings under bootcamp.
- It is still too soon to replace my computer for another one. I feel I can stick with this one at least a couple more years.

The scroll issue is a bigger issue to me than for most. I agree with you.

Same, just kills it for business use for me, sad to say even my 8.4 Samsung Tab S is more useful as a secondary device, I can put it in portrait, read off a document and be working on the MBPr at the same time, with the 11" Air I have to continuously stop and scroll.

Am hoping the new 12" will be more Retina than Air, however I doubt that`s the case. Interestingly enough some folks are making good progress with OS X 10.10 on the venerable Surface Pro 3, have always shy`d away from a Hackintosh, equally running OS X on more versatile hardware like a SP3 or Lenovo Yoga is appealing as Apple are unlikely to bring anything interesting to market anytime soon...

I think there are a lot of misunderstood things about the new MBA...such as it running ARM or Core M not being fast enough. But I really like a lot of the responses here, seems like most people would rather keep the power/advantages of the Pro instead of going for a little more portability. Everyone has their own use case.

How come?

I just realized it won't have many ports. That could be the deal
breaker for me.

1 USB is a crime lol

I'm happy with the set up that I have, and my 13" rMBP is convenient for me when I travel. Plus, I'm just not sold on iPad's as an everyday product for me, for how I compute. I have an iPad Air (first gen) that I use at work, and the only thing I use it for is to keep my email up on it when I"m working from home, and occasionally to generate a severely complex password when one of our genius users forgets to reset their password before it expires.

I don't think it'll be faster than the rMBP 13" even if it's a newer generation processor. 1.1 GHz?

But the MBA isn't an iPad. I'm not sold on iPads either.

No thanks. Quite happy with the Surface Pro 3. If Apple were to release an Intel based hybrid similar to the Surface then I will highly consider it. Another 12-inch laptop just doesn't make sense right now for them. If anything I'd go for a 13-inch rMBP with a dedicated GPU :)

Nope. I have a 13" MBA right now. While I love the form factor, I do not love the port configuration and the max specs vs. the 13" rMBP.

Unless the 12" rMBA can have 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, Thunderbolt and Power ports on the same side, then I will not get a rMBA.

I am waiting for the rMBP to be updated and then I'll be getting one.

Lol, no way that will happen. Which difference would be, then, vs the rMBP 13" if it can be maxed out at same, both with retina displays, and both performing similar on the CPU's (a bit less the Air but still similar) ??

Have both 15" & 13" Retina`s and am very impressed with the Mid 2014 13" Retina (2.8GHz, 512 SSD) performance, you won't be disappointed

Apologies to all for drifting off topic.

I agree with this. Traveling with the 13" MBPr is a breeze. Given the primary perk of having the MBAr would be its portability, the 13" is a great option for those looking for a great balance between performance + portability :apple:

I know the port configuration won't change much (if it does at all). The problem for me is that I want to be able to have my dock (Thunderbolt) and power to be on the same side of the computer in terms of ports. It'd make the look on my desk much cleaner.

I also need 16GB of RAM because I'm beginning to push 8GB to the max on my MBA due to iOS and web development I do. I'm starting to swap more and more often, that really annoys me.

The MBA is not slouch in terms of processing power for what I do but my build times are starting to move upwards as my projects grow larger.

Oh, I'm not worried about the performance. I would just like to have 16GB of RAM and mainly the option for 1TB SSD. Hence the 13" rMBP will be a fantastic upgrade.

I agree with you. I have both on my 13" rMBP right now. As of now, the Air can only get half of both these things. I can see why Apple wouldn't offer 16GB RAM in the new MBA, but I don't see why they wouldn't include the option for a 1TB SSD.

I'm not going to switch if I'm not satisfied with what it offers, but I am definitely super interested.

Don't get me wrong, the MBA is fantastic and I love it. The main problem for me is the port configuration. The upgrades are just icing on the cake.

I understand, same will happen to me as I move to a new Air or Pro (now I have all usbs in same side and it's perfect to me). I'm also thinking betwen the rMBA and a rMBP 15". The first would be in case it has enough usb ports and not a Core M, since I move large Ableton projects with many CPU consuming instruments. If it doesn't fit that requirements I'd move to the 15" to have a beast for many years and easily move the big projects (and do some casual gaming). Not moving to 13" rMBP though, not because it's not powerful enough but I'm not concerned about RAM if having 8GB, and I don't see it having a good resources/price relation comparing it to an Air and a 15" rMBP (might be more a subjective thing).

Lol, only things in common are lightness and "Air" label.

Well, its obvious that the new 12 inch retina macbook Air wont be even close to a 15 inch retina pro in terms of power, so i really don't really see it as a portable powerhouse more like an iPad in terms of usefulness(for me).

Which i already have, so there is that.

I have the mid range rmbp 13" and I am not considering the 12" mba that is rumoured.

In terms of usefulness, it is all up to you: if you only consume contents then iPad is the right for you. But trust me if I tell you a MBA is more close to a 15" MBP rather than iPad Air 2 despite having "similar benchmarks" with the iPad. Most of tasks are single threaded, and MBA and 15" MBP have similar results in single thread, but iPad has half of the power in that. Try doing some serious stuff (obviously considering we're not talking about workstations) with the iPad, like editing a movie (yeah, Air is cappable of that) and tell me how did it go.

All i am saying is that i already have a powerhouse that is also portable, that is my 15 inch retina pro(to which an air retina wont even come close to in terms of power), i dont see a need for an retina air macbook for myself. If i need a portable browser/consuming machine, my iPad fits that role perfectly.

There is no room for an air retina in my work flow. Too slow for anything serious, too clunky for a portable web browser/consuming machine.
