I'm looking for USB-C hubs for my new MBP. I have a bunch of docks and drives that connect via Thuderbolt, but it seems like none of the drives have a Thunderbolt connection. I'm thinking, instead, if I want to connect more than one drive at once, I'll just need to by multiple Thunderbolt to USB-C connectors (like this one).

Am I right about this?

If you have only one or two drives to connect and not much else, that would be the least expensive option.

However if you desire Gigabit Ethernet, e-Sata, FW, DisplayPort, HDMI, legacy USB ports, or dedicated Audio I/O ports on a regular basis, one of the many available USB-C hubs/docks may be a more convenient option. There are offerings from OWC, CalDigit, Elgato, Akitio, StarTech, Belkin to name just a few.

They have different connectivity options and power ratings for charging your MBP, so a detailed comparison to match your needs is in order. Expect to pay upwards of $300 street though for the better of these devices.

Here is a detailed recent review of eight TB3 docks.

Yeah, get the terminology right. You need a Thunderbolt 3 hub, not the cheaper vanilla USB-C hub types.

And no, there are none that offer Tbolt 1/2 connections on them. Get one of the Tbolt 3 ones you like, then daisychain from the second Tbolt 3 female on the hub to your main Tbolt 2 device using one of those Apple adapters.
Then daisychain the rest onwards down the chain, making sure the Tbolt 2 devices are before the Tbolt 1 ones (i.e. the 1 devices are at the end of the chain, or any Apple Tbolt/Cinema Display is at the very end), as otherwise the 2's may be slower in function.
